Instances are Aion's equivalent of dungeons. They are special areas and are named 'instances' because a separate copy ('instanced zone') is created for every group of players that enters them. Instances are generally PvE, but there are variations such as the Arenas (PvP) and Battlegrounds (PvPvE).
Most instances are available to anyone who meets the minimum level requirement, although some may require the completion of a prerequisite entry quest or the player to be in the possession of particular item to enter. Later instances may also require the player to be adequately geared and be familiar with the mechanics. There are limits to the amount of times players can enter a selected instance within a set time period, which is based on that instance's entry count.
Instances after the 6.0 Update Edit
For much of the game's history instances were a pivotal part of Aion. During the 5.x patch there were over 70 available instances in the game, each serving different purposes: some were great for farming experience or gear, whereas others provide valuable (crafting materials), and yet others need to be completed in order to proceed with the campaign quests or level up a legion. Many of these instances, however, had become obsolete over the course of the game, and were left virtually abandoned as a greater emphasis was put on convenience and fast leveling to endgame.
With the 6.0 update most instances were deleted from the game. Those that were deemed important for campaign purposes were kept and recycled into Solo instances with adjusted entry levels and difficulty, which is the main type of instance players will encounter up until level 75. A few of Aion's more popular group instances have also been left intact (such as Fire Temple and Beshmundir Temple), and offer an alternative way for players around their level ranges to level up and acquire gear (compared to solely doing campaign and field quests). The purposes of instances were also unified: the lower level instances focus on awarding experience through quests and offer slightly better gear, while the higher level, new endgame instances put a greater emphasis on acquiring gear and crafting materials.
Player Limit Edit
There is a limit on maximum number of players that can enter each instance. To enter a 1-man instance you have to be out of the group, and cannot join a group while inside. For a 3-man or 6-man instance you are required to be in a group, for instances requiring 12 to 24 players in an alliance, and for instances requiring over 24 players in a league.
Entry & Entry Count Edit
To enter an instance the player(s) will need to find and manually enter through that instance's portal or access point (indicated via a cave icon on the World Map (M)). At the location of the cave icon the player will find an object or NPC, who they may then interact with to be teleported inside.
Once any member of a group enters, a copy of the specific zone is created and 'bound' to that group. Other members of the party will enter into the same copy as long as they are part of that group. If additional or new party members are invited to the group while the instance is already open, they will enter into the same copy. When entering an instance using the cross-server function (i.e. instances that can be accessed while on the Fast-Track Server or the Dredgions), the copy and all members who enter it are placed on the game's Instance Server instead.
Once a person enters, their entry count for that instance will be deducted by -1 and his/her personal cooldown for that zone will be initiated, which prevents going into another copy of it within a set time limit. The entry count varies per instance, and may reset every day, week, or on selected days only. Additional entries can typically be obtained by means of the cash shop (instance reset/entry boost scrolls), but can in some cases also be obtained through quests.
If the player fails to use their additional entries before the next reset, it will be wasted. If the player uses a reset/bonus entry scroll with the maximum amount of entries available, it will be added to the amount of entries available (for example, displaying as 2/1 entries available).
Leaving, Rejoining & Resetting Edit
If you leave the group while inside a group instance, you will be kicked out after 1 minute. If you rejoin that very same group, you will be able to re-enter the same 'copy' of instance under certain conditions: at least one group member should have remained inside, and the original group that went into the instance should not have been disbanded at any point.
If a group gets disbanded, everyone will be kicked out of the instance and it will reset. An efficient way to thus do multiple runs of the same instance is to quit the party at the end and have the party leader 'remake' the party. Furthermore, if there is no player inside an instance for about 10 minutes, it will reset.
As of the 5.0.5 patch, players who re-enter the same solo instance before the auto-reset has kicked in after about 10 minutes can choose whether to continue in the same 'copy' of the instance or reset it and start over anew, which will consume another entry count.
- Instance monsters offer a great deal more EXP and way more valuable loot than open-world monsters. Most instances also have (repeatable) quests associated with them that will benefit players.
- Monsters and bosses do not respawn once killed. There are a very few exceptions, like in certain Abyss instances, where obstacles like barricades, objects or even monsters may respawn after some time.
- Most rare items, once looted, are tradeable among players of the same group for about 5 minutes. This does not apply to groups who entered via the Fast-Track Server.
- Monsters and bosses will reset and gradually recover all their HP (in chunks of 25%) once all players who hit them at least once have died or disconnected. Unlike in open world, most monsters in instances do not reset or drop aggro if the players run away: they will pursue and not stop until the affected player(s) have been dealt with.
List of Instances Edit
More detailed information about instances (such as the amount of remaining entries, reset times, etc.) can be found by opening the in-game World Map (M) and then clicking on the Instance tab. Alternatively, you can select "Instance Info" from the Aion Main Menu, or hover your mouse over an instance's icon on the world map.
For the sake of convenience we have compiled a list of the instances in the game and indicated their purposes below.
- Instances that provide very good EXP/Gear and are highly recommended for players around that level to do will have both their name and their purpose indicated through a bold font. Event Instances are always worth doing.
- Misc (purpose) means that the dungeon may also have miscellaneous drops (such as souvenirs) and/or other uncommon items, such as wings, plume boxes and essence cores. For more information on these drops visit the relevant instance's page.
Event Instances Edit
These are special instances that are only available during select moments each year (e.g. Halloween), and only for a limited time. In these instances the player is typically transformed into a monster or NPC and receives preset stats, skills, and damage values, allowing anyone who meets the minimum level requirement to participate.
Event instances offer rare and valuable loot, sometimes in combination with large amounts of experience, and are always worth doing whenever they are available. The Luna Shop instances are a permanent addition as of patch 5.1.

PvE Instances Edit
These are Aion's regular instances, offering a wide variety of challenges along with an equally wide variety of purposes. Higher level instances put a greater emphasis on strategy and gear, and some instances may also require a higher player level than the actual minimum entry level.
- Entry Requirements: Some instances require the completion of a prerequisite quest or possession of a specific item in order to access them. These instances are marked by a [*]. More information can be found on the concerning instance's page.

Level 66+ Edit
Monsters in the level 66+ instances (also known as the Archdaeva instances in 5.X) have a chance to drop an when killed. Each corpse should therefore be checked for loot. The final boss of each instance also has a chance to drop either an or when slain.

PvP Instances (Arenas) Edit
Arenas are small areas in which one or more players are pitted against each other, in order to hone their skills and to compete for glory. The winner is the person or team with the most points at the end of the time limit. While PvP is the central objective here, certain objects or bonus monsters that appear on the battlefield may grant additional points or buffs.
Those who perform well in the arenas will earn AP and currencies that can be used to acquire PvP gear. Since the aforementioned currencies and PvP gears can also be sold to other players they make for a good source of income.
- IMPORTANT: Player levels and gear are not equalized inside Aion's arenas. You enter as you are.
