Edits Edit

Thanks for your edits to the Mau pages. As you can see, we could use a little help fleshing these pages out. However, please refrain from uploading maps of NPC locations. When I get to the point of the automated map, all these old map images will have to be deleted. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here or on my talk page. Yeah I had my doubts about the "Map1" section in the new NPC creator page, thought it was used for that, will be using blank from now on.
Got few questions already though:
  • If I use the hints given on the edit page that page preview is all wrong, picture don't turn up until I used code like that [[File:Itu.jpg|250px]].
  • Emblem icon won't turn up because it automatically adds "a" to the end of the "etc" that I wrote to the appropriate section (sorry for uploading dupe earlier too, I went through the images and still didn't notice it).
What should I do? Should I add the page like the hints tell me, or would the normal links work too? --KillerZ 21:52, August 27, 2010 (UTC)
A few answers (I hope).
The Map1 sections will be for maps... but for now they are mostly used for related images (see Chieftain Muhamurru). It's not easy to use the uploadimage tags for the NPC boxes and still allow custom input. The easiest way is to save the NPC without altering the image part. Doing so will default to the image of File:{{PAGENAME}}.png. Uploading a file by that name will insert it into the NPC box. I actually will be removing the Upload Image from the create plate as I see it causes more confusion than it's worth. Saving the page without the image tag puts a red link on the page; then you can upload an image by clicking on that link instead.
To use the emblem, you'd have to know the name of the image (it's not really user friendly at this point unless you know the image names; they all start with File:Icon emblem *.gif) So for your Mau pages simple use 'etc' so the emblem shows up.
Saving the page also works even with errors. Surriela, Grynd or myself will usually spot them and fix it to how it should be. If you monitor pages you create to later see changes to the pages, it can help you for future edits.
Other advice... you can go into 'Advanced Edit' while creating a page (once you've entered all your info) and remove the lines for info you haven't entered or lines that aren't needed. This cuts down on the coding 'clutter' left on the pages using the templates. Anything else? Rappy 23:18, August 27, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe I should upload the images again in png format then, easier that way. If so, could you delete the jpg's? --KillerZ 01:01, August 28, 2010 (UTC)
Sure. I closely monitor changes made and usually catch things like that. If you upload a PNG I will remove the JPG. Rappy 01:04, August 28, 2010 (UTC)
I had some kind of problem with the images, they appear blank, weird, never seen it before, when I saved them as interlaced pngs then it seemed to work on the first one but the second still don't appear...I feel such a noob right now KillerZ 01:20, August 28, 2010 (UTC)
...uuuh and now that they all appear I feel even noobier...I hate myself :) --KillerZ 01:23, August 28, 2010 (UTC)

(reset indent) Yeah, wikia seems to have a few caching issues with images. Sometimes just giving them a few minutes helps. Rappy 01:24, August 28, 2010 (UTC)

Not bad for your first edit. I made a few changes to clean up the page. There are a few websites around that list the other trivial information about the mobs with the use of a packet sniffer program. One would be Yellow Gremlin. I use this site quite often to get the health and aggro range; also the 'dots' for NPCs with emblems instead of the normal dot system. Only use named = yes for named killable mobs (IE. Gulax) not for everyday NPCs we converse with. Try to outline the quests as seen in the change I made to the page. There are plenty more Mau out there... I hope to see more pages from you =) Rappy 01:53, August 28, 2010 (UTC)
Please be patient with yourself, it takes time to learn all the formats. I still find times I make mistakes, but each time I learn from it. As well, there are times the editors change things. You are doing fine, and I hope to see lots more pages from you. Let us know if we can help out. Surriela 02:00, August 28, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the YellowGremlin, it helped.KillerZ 02:16, August 28, 2010 (UTC)

(reset indent) New question: Do different level mobs need different pages? They don't work as one Brutal Black Claw Hunter. --KillerZ 18:20, August 28, 2010 (UTC)

Nevermind, noticed Gray Mane Stalker page. KillerZ 21:06, August 28, 2010 (UTC)

Emblem Edit

Emblem is not needed if it's a dot image. Emblem is used for those that have the icons as an emblem. You don't have to add emblem = to those pages; it will be defaultly set to the rank. Rappy 21:18, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Also, in reference to this, you don't need to worry about capitalizing as the infobox takes care of that. As far as the into text, that's how it is in-game and should reflect that verbatim (except with change it to be personal; IE "A Mau in the..." to "So-and-so is a Man in the...") Rappy 21:26, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Ok, little bit smarter again :) --KillerZ 22:01, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Also, if the NPC you are making the page for doesn't have another NPC of the same name in a different area... then you don't need a disambig identifier after the name. In other words, MuMu Looklook (Black Claw Tribe) should be moved to MuMu Looklook as there is no other NPC named MuMu Looklook in the game except for in Black Claw Outpost. Rappy 23:15, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Yep, one is in Black Claw territory and is black furred, second one is on the MuMu Village with brown fur, the same is with the Lookout too.KillerZ 23:18, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I thought they were Veteran in BCO. Rappy 23:39, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, there are veterans too...I need to check, I think veterans were in BCO, and non vetereans were in the swamp. KillerZ 23:42, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I just verified. The 15, 16 2-dot Looklooks are both in MuMu Village, Swamp and BCO. The 16 4-dot is ONLY in MuMu Village. So there will need to be two pages. One for the 15, 16 2-dot and one for the 16 4-dot. Rappy 23:45, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe 3: 1 for the 4dot brown fur in MuMu Village, then the 2dot brown fur in MuMu Village and then the 2dot black fur in Black Claw areas. Because the black furred 2dots in Black Claw areas don't drop the MuMu belts like the brown ones in MuMu Village. What do you think of that, to much of same character? KillerZ 12:45, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

(reset indent) That's a good point. Look at MuMu Lookout and tell me what you think. That handles both the 2-dots from both areas with a specification on the belt. Do you think that's sufficient? Rappy 12:49, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Actually that works quite well, but aren't the middle one, the one without the eyeblind, MuMu Looklook? They have the same deal with the quest too. KillerZ 14:12, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
Also, how how exactly should we differ the 2-doter from 4-doter Looklook, in the name area?KillerZ 14:32, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
Those were all Lookouts. I took the screens myself. As far as the 4-dot, I was thinking of maybe doing MuMu Looklook (disciplined) and MuMu Looklook (expert) or something similar. Ideas? Rappy 21:46, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
That is kind of logical, they do afterall differ on the rank.KillerZ 06:16, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

Welcome back Edit
